La Grange Park

La Grange Park was incorporated in 1892  by farmers and survivors of the Chicago fire in order to close a tavern that had opened in the town.  The original village is located to the west of La Grange Road, on a low ridge that was the shore of Lake Michigan tens of thousands of years ago.

The locale is now a quiet, safe and neat village, located 16 miles southwest of the Loop, 2.2 square miles in size and composed primarily of single family homes on good sized lots.  Most homes are older and vary widely in style.  It is situated along Salt Creek with an expanse of the Cook County forest preserve to the north and west, the older and larger community of La Grange to the south, and Brookfield to the east.  The population is more than 12,000.

Students attend three elementary schools, two in District 102, and one in District 95.   Most La Grange Park High School students attend the two campuses of Lyons Township High School in District 204.  Those who live in District 95 attend Riverside-Brookfield High School in Riverside.  There are two parochial schools in the village.
